Job Description:
As provided in RCW 2.70.030, the Chief Justice of the Washington Supreme Court appoints the Chair of the OPD Advisory Committee. The Chair provides leadership to the Committee and works with OPD to ensure the Committee fulfills its statutory responsibilities.
The Chair is responsible for:
-Presiding over Advisory Committee meetings and ensuring they are conducted in an organized and inclusive manner;
-Working with OPD to develop meeting agendas and facilitate discussion among members;
-Supporting the Committee in carrying out its statutory duties, including review of the OPD Director, approval of budget requests, and development of policy recommendations;
-Coordinating Committee activities, including workgroups or special projects as needed;
-Serving as a liaison between the Advisory Committee, OPD leadership, and appointing authorities. During the term of appointment, no appointee may:
-Provide indigent defense services funded by a city, a county, or the state, except on a pro bono basis;
-Serve as a judge, except on a pro tempore basis or as a court employee; or
-Serve as a prosecutor or as an employee of a prosecutor’s office.
