Job Description: Northwest Justice Project (NJP) seeks qualified applicants for the Managing Attorney of its Native American Unit (NAU). NJP is Washington State’s largest civil legal aid provider and operates as a statewide law firm. NJP provides free legal assistance to address the unique legal needs of Native American communities statewide. The NAU emphasizes cases involving government policies and practices that have had disproportionate, adverse impacts on Native communities.

The Managing Attorney is part of the management team and provides direct supervision of the unit’s legal and support staff statewide. Successful applicants must have a minimum of five (5) years of litigation experience with substantive Indian and Tribal Law experience, including litigation in Tribal Courts, Federal or State Courts, or administrative agencies on matters concerning the unique status of Native persons. Experience in one or more practice areas, including consumer, education, employment, Indian child welfare, public benefits, housing, health care, and/or Indian trust property issues is preferred. Applicants should be culturally responsive and have lived experience or experience working with low-income Native American communities. Prior management experience is preferred.

Salary range is $95,000 – $145,000 based on relevant experience plus comprehensive benefits package. Hybrid work available with flexible office location within one of NJP’s offices statewide.
